OI’ve been thinking of what I’d like to see. And I realize I’m proud of, and grateful for, our accomplishments. What would have happened in our city if we didn’t exist? We don’t know, but we surely seem to be the “go to” group as advocates for people with hearing loss. Do people understand this? I’d like to try to get this point across by something like -
—- Saying on our home page “What does our chapter do?” - perhaps in big letters, with a link to another page where we can expand on our activities. I have quite a few pictures we can show along with blurbs that explain just a little more… like…
Outreach
We prepare hospital kits, for use by hard of hearing folks when a hospital stay is necessary - and then showing the picture of Duane (if he would allow that!)
We advocate for FM listening systems in public places - and maybe show a picture at Simpich (and the blurb, explaining our grant helped, perhaps?)
CART for Emergency Shelters and Emergency Management Drills
We educate the public - with a picture of the class we gave at Pillar
We have social outings - with a picture of a hike, and/or a trip to the movies.
We have meetings that explain the various aids and devices available - I have pictures from that meeting
We have fun! - we have several pictures that are very cute, of us having fun!
You get the idea. I think we’re a very active chapter and that’s been our strength and with our very own website, we would be able to make sure people “GET” that.

"Do you know about t-coils? ALD's? Captiview? Learn about technologies beyond hearing aids that will enhance your ability to function in today's world".
Following our mission to advocate for the hard of hearing, our chapter is offering a Hospital Kit for sale to help ease the hearing problems faced in the hospital. Another good opportunity where parts of the kit may be very helpful is any out-patient procedures where you receive anesthesia.
The kit contains information, placards for the bedside, posts above the bed, a small container for your hearing aids with instructions advising medical personal about your hearing aids and how to get your attention, pad & pen, a "Please Face Me" button for your gown or pillow, identifiable stickers to let the doctors/nurses know of your hearing problems, and other information you may find helpful. The stickers also work great at the nurse's station intercom. Have them applied to your charts and medical information. The kits sell for $5 each plus postage and are available to anyone. These kits would be great items to give to your hard-of-hearing friends, family members, and neighbors. |
